NIMMS has contributed to the accelerator design for the SEEIIST project (South East Europe International Institute for Sustainable Technologies). This international initiative aims to build research infrastructure for cancer research and therapy in South East Europe. All together, the project involves 11 member countries. Within SEEIIST, the NIMMS project has proposed a facility capable of accelerating heavy ions, including carbon and oxygen. The estimated cost of such a facility is €240 million (2021).
The facility is set to be positioned as a unique center, with an ability to store and accelerate up to 2×10^10 carbon ions per cycle.
