Internships

The NIMMS project contributes to education and capacity building through internships sponsored via the CERN and Society Foundation https://cernandsocietyfoundation.cern with the support of a private Foundation. One of the main aims of this sponsorship is to facilitate and enhance knowledge transfer to South-East Europe in view of a future cancer research and therapy facility promoted by the SEEIIST (South East Europe International Institute for Sustainable Technologies) https://seeiist.eu.

In 2019 three Master students from UNSA https://www.unsa.ba/en Sarajevo, participated in NIMMS-related projects at CERN, and in 2020 two more participated online due to covid. Their results were included into their Master Theses co-supervised by NIMMS collaborators. They also participated to the CERN Open Days 2020 with the ENLIGHT https://enlight.web.cern.ch stand and contributed to educational outreach activities, such as the Particle Therapy MasterClasses https://indico.cern.ch/event/840212, which is integrated into the International MasterClasses programme https://physicsmasterclasses.org/index.php. Back in UNSA , Sarajevo, they were instrumental in organizing and leading such activities for BiH every year.

In addition, 12 CERN non-member states summer students were supported for the online programme in 2021 via this scheme and 10 of them were supervised by NIMMS collaborators.
