GaToroid

GaToroid is a new innovative gantry design, that aims to diminish the size, weight, and cost by employing a toroidal magnetic field, that operates without mechanical rotation. This approach can enable rapid switching of beam directions, allowing for possibilities with FLASH therapy. Distinctively, the gantry incorporates large superconducting magnets, which can precisely bend the beam towards the patient.

Key features of the GaToroid gantry design include:

  • Graded coils that effectively shape the field index, enhancing precision.
  • Static superconducting magnets comprising 16 coils, ensuring stability and efficiency.
  • Beam channels within the inter-coil spaces, optimizing beam path.
  • A vector / kicker magnet, central to the system’s functionality.

Additionally, the design of the toroidal magnetic field allows for different beam energy levels. This feature maintains the precision of the beam, focusing it accurately on a single spot.
